FIJI Airways Fijiana 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula is humbled to fly the Fiji flag at two Rugby World Cup Sevens.
He coached the Fiji 7s team at the 2013 Rugby World Cup 7s and will be guiding the Fijiana 7s side to its second Rugby World Cup Sevens appearances this weekend in San Francisco,US.
Despite his allegiance to New Zealand during his playing days having represented the All Blacks 7s team, the Nadi native said he always had the passion to help his country.
He said his goal after playing was to share his experience with local-based players.
Tanivula said he was honoured to live his dream having coached the Fiji 7s team to many international 7s tournaments.
“It is a huge honour to represent the country as a coach,” he said.
“Not only for me as a coach, but also for the players and we will go out there and give our best for Fiji. “We have a huge load on our shoulders and we are looking forward to the new challenge.”
Tanivula, who was a former Fiji secondary schools sprinter, attended Natabua High School before pursuing his rugby career in New Zealand.
He played for the ACT Brumbies, Auckland Blues and Otago Highlanders in the Super Rugby competition.
He also played for the New Zealand 7s team. A series of injuries to both of his knees ended his playing career in 2006 and focused on his coaching career.
