FIJI Airways Fiji 7s head coach Gareth Baber says the team needed the support and the backing of fans to fulfil the ultimate goal of winning the Melrose Cup this weekend.

He said four players who missed selection in the final member team had accepted the decisions. Likewise, the team remained focused on regaining the Melrose Cup. He said the players had been reminded of the huge loads on their shoulders.

“The team needs the full backing of everyone,” said Baber.

“Players themselves put their arms around each other after the selection. “Look there are not that just the four who were dropped, but the players we missed out in selection back home. “We all know there is a responsibility to do and for those boys, we kept reminding them and they are reminding each other.”

Baber said the next focus was to counter their first game either against Japan or Uruguay.

The Welshman is expected to name Leone Nakarawa, Kalione Nasoko and Semi Kunatani as starters upfront for the first game.

Skipper Jerry Tuwai is expected to form the backline combination with Vatemo Ravouvou, Semi Radradra and Josua Tuisova. Jasa Veremalua, Paula Dranisinukula, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Alasio Naduva and Amenoni Nasilasila are likely to provide the much needed impact later in the game.
