FIJI Airways Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber has opted for experience in the team for the 2018 Rugby World Cup 7s says former Fiji 15s assistant coach Rev Joji Rinakama.

The former Nadroga and Naitasiri coach said the players selected were ready to deliver for the country.

“I believe Gareth Baber has made a very good selection of the team for the world cup although he might have had a very difficult time selecting the players for the job,” Rinakama said.

“He has decided to go for the experience in the team as he had dropped Eroni Sau who had performed in the past tournaments with Josua Vakurunabili and Waisea Nacuqu from the final team. The team selected for the world cup can win the title for Fiji and there is no doubt about it.”

Baber selected Olympians Jerry Tuwai, Jasa Veremalua, Vatemo Ravouvou, Semi Kunatani, Leone Nakarawa and Josua Tuisova who created history for Fiji after winning the first gold medal for the country in 2016.

“Eroni, Josua and Waisea Nacuqu played well in the series and I think it was not an easy decision to drop them. It would have been very hard for him to drop them,” he said.

“He wants to use those players (Kunatani, Semi Radradra and Tuisova) as they have been there in 7s for some time especially what they did in 2016 Olympic Games.”
