2018 General Elections: No media breach

NO media organisation breached the 48-hour blackout period for the 2018 General Election that started on midnight, November 11.
This was confirmed by Media Industry Development Authority chairman, Ashwin Raj.
However, Mr Raj said his office had started investigations on some social media users who had allegedly breached the 48-hour blackout provision of the Electoral Act.
In light with this, the MIDA chair said fake news spread through social media was of great concern in Fiji.
Mr Raj said the members of the public should not pay attention to the fake news online that used logos of legit media organisations.
He said his office was now weighing the provisions in the Online Safety Act to take actions on those spreading haterated, fear and disunity through fake news
