THE Fijian Government has invited the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) to be part of the observers for the 2018 General Elections.

Attorney-General and Minister Responsible for Election Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum made this confirmation last night saying they would all come under the Multinational Observer Group (MOG).

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the Government had sent out invitations to a large number of countries and they were awaiting respective responses.

“There is an independent process that’s done, they get their accreditation not by Government, but by the Fijian Elections Office,” he said.

There were more than 90 observers in the 2014 General Elections who all worked under the MOG.

Australia, India and Indonesia will co-lead the MOG in the 2018 general election.

Fiji will go to the polls on November 14.
