THE seven objections received by the Electoral Commission during the objection period for candidates of the 2018 General Elections have been dismissed.

This was confirmed by the commission’s chairperson, Suresh Chandra, at a press conference this afternoon saying six of the objections were against candidates of the FijiFirst party, while one objection was against all the candidates of the HOPE party.

“At the conclusion of our deliberation and following the receipt of responses from the registered officers, as well as candidates from both the parties, the Electoral Commission has dismissed all the objections that had been filed,” Mr Chandra said.

He said the commission had informed the objectors and the respective political parties about their decision.

“Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, I wish to confirm that the total number of candidates for the 2018 General Election will be 235.”
