TWENTY thousand ballot papers were transported from Star Printery factory in Raiwai, Suva, to a secure storage facility at the Fijian Elections Office warehouse in Laucala Beach, Nasinu, yesterday.

Supervisor of Election Mohammed Saneem said the ballot papers which were packed in 14 boxes were transported under heavy police guard.

“We are treating every ballot paper with the utmost seriousness; as you have noticed we just transported 20,000 ballot papers. It was under heavy police guard, brought into a secure facility,” he said.

Mr Saneem said only a limited number of people would have access to their secured warehouse at Laucala Beach.

“It has controlled entry and exit as well as security by police with limited number of people who can enter the facility.”

Mr Saneem said they would continue to transport ballot papers when ready.

He reaffirmed that procedures used ensured the highest level of security for ballot papers.
