THE 70 per cent target of votes cast set by the Fijian Elections Office for the 2018 General Election has been achieved.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said following this, the FEO would now proceed to begin entry of final national results for yesterday’s polls.

“We have reached that benchmark, but this does not mean that counting has stopped, this does not mean that we will be counting again, this does not mean that the results will only be for 70 per cent of the polling places,” he said.

“As I said, the results that have announced all night were directly from polling places, but was meant to give voters the confidence and certainty that the votes that have been cast yesterday have been counted and so that voters are able to ascertain direction in which the election is headed.

“I wish to ensure that at this point in time nobody makes the misinformation about this process.”

Mr Saneem also assured voters that votes have been counted at all polling places where votes were cast yesterday, except the 23 polling venues where polling had been adjourned.

“So, the provisional results that we have been announcing all night are actual results from those polling places and we are stopping that this morning, because we have received up to 70 per cent of the results and voters are now able to understand the dynamic of the results of the election.”
