FIJI’S Land Transport Authority (LTA) hopes it will be given the funds to start and complete planned programs.
Board chairperson Vijay Maharaj said he hoped LTA would get what it asked for in the 2018/2019 National Budget submission.
He identified LTA’s needs as in “developments like the Labasa office, the opening of additional branches, and increasing the enforcement team”.
He said with the number of road deaths, LTA was planning on installing more cameras.
“There are a lot of road deaths on the road at the moment, almost very similar to last year and if we are not careful, the numbers might even increase,” Mr Maharaj said.
The 2017/2018 Budget allocation for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport was $134.2million, comprising $61.7million for operating expenditure, $69.2million for capital expenditure and VAT of $3.3million.
