Update: 2:20PM TWO students of two boarding schools in Tailevu today pleaded with Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to increase the boarding allowances for boarding schools.
This was raised by a student of Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) and a female student from St Vincent College in Tailevu during the Government budget consultation at Vunimono Sanatan Dharam hall in Nausori today.
The students said the meals provided at the school hostel were not enough to satisfy their hunger.
“We are still hungry even after having our meals,” RKS Year 13 student Rosivel Nadibi said.
Ana Naliwa of St Vincent College echoed the same sentiments and said even though the school was not fully funded by Government, there was a need to look into the issue of the type of meals that were provided for boarding students.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum acknowledged the issue raised by the two students and said Government was going to look into it.
He also stated that Government had increased the allocation for boarding allowances over the years.
