Five families in Rakiraki claim that the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is only giving them 2000 litres to use for two weeks.

Residing along the Volivoli Circular Rd, the families claim that they run out of water within a span of six days.

“We are facing a lot of difficulties and we only use the water that is given for cooking and the toilets,” said resident Arvin Reddy.

“For most of the days we have to go to relatives far away from here to have our bath.”

Mr Reddy has two children who attend primary school.

“They are going to school without having a bath and I am ashamed I have to send my children to school like this.”

He said 5000 litres of water would be sufficient for two weeks usage.

WAF confirmed it only gives 2000 litres of water per household every two weeks.

“The volume is based on the World Health Organization (WHO) standards to cater for cooking, drinking, and basic hygiene practices are between 7.5 to 15 litres per person per day.”

WAF said Fiji was currently experiencing a seasonal drought and advised everyone to practise resilience and conserve and store water for at least two days.
