20-plus Pacific locations receive prediction calendars

Listen to this article:

TWENTY-three Pacific locations this week received more than 1800 prediction calendars and was distributed to national meteorological service offices and other coastal users in the region.

The calendars were designed and produced by the Pacific Community’s (SPC) Geoscience, Energy and Maritime (GEM) Division.

This was highlighted in a statement by SPC that stated that tide predictions were critical information needed for a range of regional users from shipping companies, tourism operators, local fishermen and disaster managers.

“A survey completed this year by 94 ocean focal points from 14 Pacific island countries indicates that 84 per cent of users consider the tide calendars to be a highly valuable resource for themselves or their work,” the SPC stated.
