ABOUT $2.5million belonging to landowners in Bua, Cakaudrove and Macuata is being withheld by the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) because the landowning units don’t have bank accounts and deeds of trust.
As a result, TLTB officials in the Northern Division are visiting landowning units to ensure they register their trust and open bank accounts.
TLTB general manager Alipate Qetaki said they were targeting the North to ensure all landowning units had registered trust and accounts.
“This is a requirement if money is to be paid out to the landowners,” he said.
“This current exercise is also focusing on landowning units which have significant sums of money held back by TLTB due to the fact that landowners have not registered their trust and also a trust bank account. The exercise covers Macuata, Cakaudrove the Bua Provinces.
“A total of $2,529,135.47 is due to the landowners and this is 42 per cent of the total sum withheld nationwide in the 14 provinces,” Mr Qetaki said.
He said this sum was for 610 landowning units in the North.
