The Fiji Cancer Society has been supporting 183 cancer patients in the Western Division with medical oxygen, mobility devices, transportation, and medication this year. Society chief executive Belinda Chen shared this at the handing over of a $30,000 cheque by executives of Style Fiji on Denarau in Nadi last week.

“In the West, we have reached 583 individuals with cancer education information,” Ms Chen said.

“We have screened 114 women for cervical cancer and conducted physical breast exams for 318 women and eight prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests for men over 50.

“Our clinic was open for four days and referred 10 women for further diagnostic tests.

“From January to June this year, our outreach programs have been able to reach out to 1580 individuals and share with them cancer information.”

Ms Chan said this nationwide program had also allowed them to screen 372 women for cervical cancer while 844 women had undergone physical breast examination. As many as 417 individuals were also provided with non-communicable diseases screening.

Ms Chen said the services provided were done at no cost, and she urged Fijians to reach out and be aware of their health status.
