FIFTY-EIGHT women graduated from the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre (MWVTC) today.
Since the establishment of the Centre in October 2015, this year saw the 17th batch of women from all walks of life to graduate with their certificates in cooking, sewing and hydroponics.
This makes a total of 906 women to have graduated from Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre Manager Shazna Khan said most of the participants reached only primary level of education and travelled from as far as Navua, Labasa, Tailevu and Naitasiri.
Graduate from the cooking batch Rima Reshmi Nand said the death of her father took a toll on her education.
“I could not pursue higher education when my father passed away as he was the sole bread winner for our family,” she said.
Emotional Nand said life was even more difficult for her when her husband and two daughters left her.
She is thankful to her friends and relatives who advised and recommended MWVTC to her.
“Learning at this Centre has enhanced my cooking and communications skills which I will use to my advantage to make a living for my myself.”
Nand plans to establish a small business operating from her home to help her financially .
