A new $167,000 teachers quarters was opened by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at Ucunivanua District School in Verata, Tailevu on Thursday.

Speaking at the opening of the Tailevu Provincial Council meeting on Thursday, Mr Bainimarama said education had always been the main priority for his Government.

Village head Ratu Sevanaia Lalakoverata said the new quarters would boost learning in the rural school.

“We want to thank Government for their assistance because for us here in Ucunivanua Village, education has always been a key to our success,” he said.

“I strongly believe that if teachers are provided with the resources they need and a comfort place to live, this will encourage them to give their best especially for those in rural schools.

Ratu Sevanaia said the number of students enrolled in the school increased over the past years.

“Right now we have more than 100 students at the school and this number has increased when compared with previous years.

“This is a school that was established by our forefathers to ensure that we had access to education.”
