FIJI Airways has 15 women pilots, says Attorney-General and Minister Responsible for Civil Aviation Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, he said of the 15, four were captains and the remaining 11 were first and second officers.

He made the comments in response to a question from Government MP George Vegnathan on what Fiji was doing in response to the push by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for increased-participation of women in leadership and technical positions in airlines.

The A-G said under Fiji Airways’ Leadership Development Program, 14 of the 26 emerging leaders were women.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said it was hoped that under the Leadership Development Program, more females would enter managerial and executive positions.

“It is good to know that the two executive general managers are females, who sit on the general executive management team including two other males, who are also Fijians,” he said.
