A TOTAL of 136 taxis in the Western Division have been installed with colour-coded zonal plates by the Land Transport Authority, according to their town or area base locations.

A statement from the authority noted the colour-coded number plates would enable members of the public to recognise real licensed taxis and legally entitled to operate as a public service vehicle.

“There are illegal taxis on our roads,” the statement reminded members of the public.

“Remember when you get into an illegal taxi, you are not insured in the event of an incident occurring which might cause injury or worse.

“If you live in those areas or travel in those areas and you become aware of illegals operating, text LTA on 582 or email on help@lta.com.fj.”

LTA chief executive officer Samuel Simpson has urged commuters across the country to contribute to making our transportation system safer.
