THE Social Welfare Department reviewed a total of 13,172 cases out of 44,155 Social Pension Scheme (SPS) cases between August 2018 and June 2019.

This was revealed by Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation permanent secretary Jennifer Poole who said some of the Pension Scheme recipients were terminated following the review.

“Out of the 13,172 only 2270 cases were terminated are due diligence,” she said.

“The 2270 cases were terminated after a review of information and documentation which revealed that recipients were either deceased, migrated overseas or have some source of income like FNPF funds, Farm leases and businesses.

“The criteria for SPS is for those old persons above 65 years who have no source of income.”
