The University of the South Pacific hosted more than 1300 students at its Lautoka Campus during the institution’s first face-to-face open day since the global pandemic.
USP Lautoka Campus director Dr Premila Devi said students and staff alike were excited to welcome back prospective students and to promote their new programs.
“It’s been two years since we welcomed prospective students to the campus and for that reason, we had a lot of very excited students and staff coming out today,” she said.
“Even though we held open days during the pandemic, they were virtual.
“So the open day again at the Campus has been a long time coming.”
She said students from across the Western Division travelled to Lautoka to learn more about their programs.
“We had 22 schools that came in with about 1300 students. “We also had members of the public and invited guests coming in to be a part of the open day.”
She said new courses under their Continuing and Community Education program drew a lot of attention.
“We have the long-running course in caregiving which always attracts a lot of interest, then we have the newer ones such as hydroponic farming and soap making courses.
“These are short-term courses that a lot of people can enrol in and we hope that interest grows after this open day.”
