Inoke Benjamine Ralata is only 12 years old but he has already helped his parents earn more than $2000.

As a result of his efforts, the lad from Kalabu was given a Special Recognition Award in the Duke of Edinburgh International Awards (DEIA) prizegiving event held at the Civic Centre in Suva yesterday.

He is a member of the Wakanisila Youth Club and is a baker.

His father, Viliame Tucake, said his son was earning money to help the family when Viti Levu was under lockdown last year.

He said as parents, they felt proud of their son’s achievements.

“We would like to thank the Ministry of Youth for organising this sort of program,” he said.

“It is really boosting the morale of our youths.

“Such talent-building programs of our youths will take them a long way.”

Mr Tucake encouraged parents to be supportive and guide their children in developing their talents.

“They all will not become doctors and lawyers. Their talent can take them a long way.”
