11-year-old boy charged for rape

An 11-year-old who allegedly raped an eight-year-old girl from his village was among the 246 people charged for serious sexual offences last month.

According to the statement of the statistics released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, there was a total of 531 counts of serious sexual offences as of December 31 2020.

There were 240 victims of whom 165 victims were under the age of 18 years.

Also last month, a 24-year-old male nurse was charged with the rape a 25-year-old pregnant patient.

The offences include 373 rape cases, 20 attempted rape, three aiding and abetting rape, two assault with intent to rape, nine abduction with intent to commit rape, 17 indecent assault, eight defilement and 99 sexual assault cases.

The statement also confirmed that the youngest victim was a two-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by her 62-year-old father and in another incident a two-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin.

A total of 38 sexual offence cases were withdrawn after discontinuances (Nolle Prosequi) were filed in 2020.
