THE Consumer Council of Fiji (CCoF) has received 101 complaints relating to online platform scams from January to date.

CEO Seema Shandil has urged consumers to exercise extreme vigilance when dealing with certain individuals/traders operating via social media platforms.

“It is deeply concerning to see that these dodgy dealers are on the rise,” she said.

“Looting consumers in broad daylight and in the process, diminishing trust in other entrepreneurs who operate similar businesses ethically.”

She said in response to the increasing number of complaints and to protect consumers and respective industries, the council was now raising alerts by naming scammers publicly.

“This will allow people to be aware of who to look out for. We are urging consumers to take heed of all advisories being given by the council to stay a level above of dodgy scammers in the marketplace.”
