ONE of the country’s iconic tourism destinations is undergoing a $100 million transformation in a bid to stamp itself as a premier South Pacific holiday haven. Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa is in the final stages of a major upgrade and general manager Francis Lee says once completed, the Yanuca Island property will boast facilities, activities and services like no other.

“The grand old dame is getting a facelift and she will emerge out of this before the end of the year fresh, new and ready for 2019 and beyond,” he said.

“The full-on renovations which began in 2017 are coming to an end in about three weeks’ time.

“This year alone we completed the food outlets and rooms. The resort is going through a metamorphosis, from caterpillar to butterfly and by next year Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort will be ready to fly with all new features.

“This includes five beautiful restaurants Beach Bar & Grill, Coastal Italian Restaurant, Lagoon Terrace Restaurant which offers international cuisine, Takali Asian Cuisine and the adults-only alfresco dining outlet.

“And then we have the Golden Cowrie Lounge, Bilo Bar on the beach and the piece de resistance, the Ka Levu Restaurant will become home to the iconic Black Marlin Bar.”

Mr Lee added that Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa had unique attractions and it was this, combined with the major upgrade and the allure of its historic past that continued to attract guests.

“We are an island resort that’s easily accessible, we have one of the best beaches, a nine-hole golf course, tennis and basketball court, the most beautiful wedding chapel, conference facilities and the most amazing staff. We have five restaurants which covers all types of cuisine, an awesome water park and all kinds of activities.

“We can cater for families, adults-only and the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) market.

“And to top it off, we are only one hour away from Nadi International Airport. Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort is literally a one stop shop when it comes to holidays or events.”
