Fiji National University Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba announced this week a program where 1000 sandalwood and 1000 cumquat and lemon trees will be planted across all its campuses.
She said this during World Environment Day celebrations at the FNU’s Lautoka Campus.
Prof Nabobo-Baba said the celebration aligned well with the university’s objectives of contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
She also announced FNU’s ban on plastic balloons across all its campuses nationwide, and said it was another step forward in safeguarding the environment.
“Beginning tomorrow, we are also going to begin the work of making sure all our campuses plant 1000 sandalwood trees,” Professor Nabobo-Baba said.
“This of course means that 1000 cumquat or lemon trees will also be planted as hosts to the sandalwood.”
Professor Nabobo-Baba also led the university management team in planting 30 varieties of fruit trees around the Natabua Campus as part of the FNU’s World Environment Day festivities.
