100-plus farmers paid insurance claim

AN insurance claim of $478,000 has been paid out to 124 farmers under the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) since the inception of the micro-insurance scheme in July 2017 till October 31, 2018.

This was highlighted SCGF chief executive officer Raj Sharma who said that the bundled micro-insurance had a total cover of $10,000.

He said it covered $1000 for funeral, $3000 for personal injury or permanent disabilities, $3000 for term life and $3000 for fire cover.

Mr Sharma acknowledged the chairman and board, Pacific Financial Inclusions Program and Fiji Care Insurance Limited for a great initiative for farmers.

Fiji Care Insurance managing director Peter McPherson said they were proud to be associated with the fund, which had been expanded to rice, dairy and copra farmers last year.

He said this year, through government assistance, it covered all civil servants and those people under the social welfare scheme.
