A SECONDARY school student who has had a vast interest in robotics feels privileged to have been offered a scholarship by the Chinese government to study in China for five years.

Nicole Zhu, 18, who is a Form 7 student at Yat Sen High School, has been offered a scholarship in Electrical Engineering and Automation.

Zhu who has always wanted to leave the country now feels quiet sad leaving her family and heading to China for such a long period of time.

When asked why the vast interest in electrical engineering – a male-dominated field, Zhu said it was a field that was developing very fast.

She said since robotics was not offered, the closest field she could get was electrical engineering and automation.

Zhu acknowledges her uncles from Philippines as she feels she has been inspired by them to take up this program.

She said while growing up, she would always see her uncles come home and fix electrical items which made her aspire to study in this field.

Zhu has maternal links to Philippines while her paternal links are to China.
