YAQONA theft continues to be an everyday issue for villagers of Nabukadogo in Macuata.
Village headman Orisi Dovibua said they had no control over the issue any more.
“A total of 10, and even more, yaqona plants would be uprooted every day,” he said.
Mr Dovibua said many of them had lost hope in yaqona farming after their plants were stolen.
“Most of our yaqona farms are located on the mountain side of the village, which is an hour’s walk,” he said.
Mr Dovibua said they had reported the matter to police.
“We have reported the matter to police and we hope that an investigation could be done right away.”
However, divisional police commissioner SSP Verani Nakauyaca said he was not aware of the case.
“So far, we have not received any reports of yaqona theft from the villagers,” he said.
More than 20 yaqona farmers from the village were affected by this.
