Update: 7:06PM MEMBERS of various communities and villagers from the three provinces of Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata will now be able to create more awareness on the prevention of child abuse and neglect in their respective communities after they completed a two-day workshop themed ‘Children are a precious Gift from God’ in Labasa today.

Community Project Officers for child protection under the Department of  Social Welfare Melaia Simpson said the workshop was designed to build on community appreciation of children and to draw attention to some of the issues that children faced during their development.

“This will assist community leaders, faith-based leaders, youth leaders and parents and caregivers to find solutions to issues of child abuse and neglect in their respective communities and villages,” she said.

A total of 40 community-based facilitators attended the workshop.
