WORK has officially started on residential lots at Lovu seaside in Lautoka. Minister for Housing Parveen Kumar confirmed the five-year development lease for the parcels of land were granted in late April.
He said the engineering company tasked to carry out the development had begun works at the site and would ensure all amenities for each lot would be installed.
He said residents already living in Lovu would also be given proper amenities including water, electricity and drainage infrastructure.
Welcoming the development was resident Manueli Sovau who has been living in the informal settlement for more than 20 years.
“I think it’s about time that we have a development like this happen in our community,” he said.
“This area has always been known as a flood prone area, but I believe that with proper drainage systems being built and better amenities like specific lots, we can finally address this problem.
“There are hundreds of households living in this area and we are expecting something better coming for us when this project is completed.”
