SIXTY women who have completed an eight weeks training in sewing, cooking and hydroponics showcased what they had learnt during the Makoi Women’s Centre open day in Nasinu yesterday. The centre’s manager Shazna Khan said the main objective of the open day was to showcase the handmade products of the women.

Ms Khan said the open day also provided a platform to promote free training to the underprivileged women in the community. The centre offers free training in sewing, cooking and hydroponics for underprivileged women.

“Some of the women who have gone through the centre have gone on to run their own small businesses and also work in some companies because we also give out references for the women here,” she said.

“Today (yesterday) we also had the women from Homes of Hope who came to see what the ladies have done. “There was also a big turnout especially from family and friends of the women and we recorded a lot of enrolments from women who want to attend the training in our next batch.”

The 60 women will be graduating tomorrow.
