FIFTY-nine women students graduated from the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre and received certificates after completing eight weeks of training in sewing, cooking, and hydroponics.

Fiji Muslim League president Hafiz Khan said the women who graduated yesterday brought the number that had graduated from the centre close to 600 over the last three years.

“That is a major feat for any organisation, in particular one that is an NGO, to be able to achieve that at this point in time,” Mr Khan said.

He said the league believed that through centres like this, they provided opportunities to families to move out of poverty, not just the ladies who were graduating.

“Because in many cases, these women are also the breadwinners in the family and are the strong ones in the family who people look up to.”
