Update: 11:37AM CANTERBURY search and rescue stakeholders held its district SAR exercise at the weekend.
And that being its major training event for the year, it involved up to 100 participants from Canterbury Land Search and Rescue, Police Search and Rescue, and the Amateur Radio Emergency Communications group.
SAR coordinator Sergeant Phil Simmonds said the exercise was also an opportunity to continue the search for 20-year-old Emma Beattie, who went missing from her Fernside home in December last year.
The weekend-long exercise was based at Loburn School, and field teams were deployed in the Ashley River area, near Rangiora.
The exercise also included helicopter safety, incident management team training and field refresher training.
