Weather watch: Strong wind warning in force for Rotuma

A STRONG wind warning remains in force for all Rotuma land areas and waters.

A weather bulletin issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 10:45am today said the trough of low pressure with cloud and showers remained slow moving over Rotuma.

Fijians on the island of Rotuma should expect strong Southeast winds with average speed of 45km/hr and gusts to 55km/hr over land, and Southeast winds 20 to 25 knots accompanied with rough seas over the waters near the island.

There will be cloudy periods with some showers and few thunderstorms, and the outlook for Saturday there will be showers.

Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure lies just to the South of Fiji and is gradually moving northwards towards Fiji.

Associated cloud and showers affect the southern parts of the group and gradually spread to the rest of the group till tomorrow.

As for the forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group, there will be showers becoming occasional with isolated heavy falls over the Southern parts of Viti Levu, including Sigatoka and the Coral coast, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.
