Weather watch: Cyclone alert for Fiji

Update: 10:08AM FIJI is on tropical cyclone alert.
In a forecast released at 3.22am today, the Fiji Meterological Service said Tropical Depression 13f centre 999hpa was located about 690 kilometres west-northwest of Nadi and 825 kilometres west-northwest of Kadavu.
Close to its centre the depression is expected to have average winds up
to 45 km/hr with momentary gusts to 85 km/hr.
The average winds close to its centre are expected to increase to 55
km/hr with momentary gusts to 85 km/hr by midnight tonight.
The depression may intensify further into a tropical cyclone in the next
18 to 36 hours.
TD13F is currently moving east at about 09 km/hr and its centre is
expected to be located about 500 kilometres west-northwest of Nadi
or about 710 kilometres west-northwest of kadavu at midday today, and
about 500 kilometres west-northwest of nadi or 620 kilometres
west-northwest of kadavu at midnight tomorrow.
On its anticipated development and track the system may bring
destructive storm force winds over Fiji in the next 30 to 48 hours.
Mariners are warned of winds possible increasing from 30 to 35 knots
within 180 nautical miles of the centre.
Seas will be very rough, there will be poor visibility with heavy rain
and squally thunderstorms.
