ULUINAKAU Rugby Club president Epi Kolinivala was happy when the Navatuvula rugby team returned to play in the Uluinakau 7s at Ratu Cakobau Park yesterday.

Kolinivala said their aim all along was to support grassroots rugby.

“Some of these teams their registration to play in the Marist 7s tournament was rejected so they were given a spot to play today (yesterday).

“While some had a late registration we managed to cater for them,” he said.

“It is good to see Congo Waimanu back and Navatuvula back in the game and this is a good buildup for them.

“It is good to see teams coming in and getting their players exposed to high level of 7s competition.

“Without this kind of competition no player will benefit or get the chance to showcase their talent.

“We have Army, which is the defending champion led by Isake Katonibau and we have the underdogs Nailega Blues which consist of Tabadamu players.”

Kolinivala said it had been 13 years and they had seen a major improvement in the players skills.

“Teams that we don’t know that existed are coming in and it is good to see former national players bring in these teams.
