WAILEA Settlement resident Tarisi Bogidrau has called on relevant authorities to fix the railings of the Wailea bridge in Vatuwaqa for the safety of the children, the elderly and residents.

The 65-year-old who has been a resident in the Wailea community for more than 30 years said no action had been taken after raising the issue with relevant authorities.

“It is very dangerous for the kids and for the elderly,” Ms Bogidrau said.

She claimed two kids had fallen through the gap a few years ago during low tide and were badly injured in the process.

She said they would appreciate if relevant authorities repaired the railings.

The Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed it is aware of the issue and signs have been erected warning people to use the footbridge at their own risk.

The authority said the footbridge was due for replacement and was now in the preliminary design phase.
