FIJI Warriors hooker Veremalua Vugakoto believes Pacific Island players can form a team which can be competitive at international level.
Vugakoto made the comment after the announcement of the Pacific Combined team put together by the World Rugby High Performance Unit to assist players in the region to secure contracts with professional clubs abroad. The Nabukelevu, Kadavu native is part of the team.
“Fighting for a spot to secure a contract will be a challenge,” Vugakoto said.
“We have a lot of talent in Fiji, Samoa and Tonga and with the help of World Rugby we can achieve our goals,” he said.
“This is a big milestone for Pacific Islands players. To have this opportunity brought to our doorsteps is a chance of a lifetime.”
The 20-year-old said if given a chance to go overseas, he would work on expanding his knowledge and skills in rugby to use his talents for the betterment of his future.
“This will help develop Pacific Rugby, improve our career and hopefully in the 2019 Rugby World Cup, we will play for our countries and compete competitively.”
