Update: 1:10PM FIJI’s Vude Queen Laisa Vulakoro will join in the festivities surrounding the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games next week.
Ms Vulakoro will be part of the Women of the World festival singing alongside indigenous women from commonwealth countries which takes place April 5-8 in Brisbane.
Described as a “stunning tribute to the First Nations women of the Commonwealth”, the festival specifically invited Ms Vulakoro to represent Fiji.
“Thank you very much for your support!” Ms Vulakoro told organisers on her facebook page.
“I’m so honoured to be invited to represent Fiji and be part of this exciting conference. So looking forward to seeing you and sharing with all these incredibly talented indigenous women song writers of the Commonwealth countries.”
Supported by the Australian Government Department of Communication and the Arts, the Australia Council for the Arts and the Queensland Government, the event is an extension of a sold-out festival of the same name held in London, England last month.
The event’s social media page said the even was a “new global celebration bringing together the women and girls of the Commonwealth of Nations.”
“Laugh, sing, dance, connect, experience, learn and join the conversation as we explore what it means to be a woman or girl in today’s world,” organisers said.
