DREKETI villagers at Somosomo on Taveuni are still reeling in shock after the alleged murder of a 34-year-old mother of four in the village on Sunday afternoon.

Dreketi villager Vulakauvaki Rabuli said they were still shocked at the death of the housewife who was allegedly murdered by her husband.

Ms Rabuli claimed the deceased’s husband was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol when the alleged incident happened.

The mother of the deceased, Vuniyatu Tuiloma, was taking her usual Sunday nap when the suspect, who lived next door, stood outside their house and told her that he was about to go away and that they needed to look after their four children.

He then allegedly told Mrs Tuiloma that he had knifed his spouse.

In her fear, Mrs Tuiloma had forgotten to wake her daughter who was lying in the room as she ran to a nearby house where men were drinking yaqona to inform them of the incident.

Mrs Tuiloma said the sight of the deceased, Adi Ema Goleanavanua, was something that still haunted her, adding the deceased was drenched in blood and surrounded by her children who were all crying.

The Dreketi housewife said she was traumatised by what she saw.

Mrs Tuiloma said the four children of the deceased were living with them because their house has been cordoned off by police.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said a 34-year-old suspect was in police custody.

Ms Naisoro said the victim was rushed to the Taveuni Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations are continuing with a post-mortem examination scheduled for yesterday.
