HIGH economic activities in the highlands of Saqani in Cakaudrove forced youth groups to repair three bridges in the area that were washed away by Severe Tropical Cyclone Keni. The groups from isolated Valovoni and Nadogo villages provided all necessary materials for the crossing without relying on government assistance.

Team leader Jano Yamoka said they had always been self-reliant and the crossing needed to be fixed because of high economic activities in the area.

He said most farmers in the area travelled daily to town to sell their grog in the market and they also have buyers who travel to their village to buy yaqona.

Youth member Iliesa Natuku said the youths were given two chainsaws to cut the logs from the forest.
