SINCE 2006, the Vodafone Hibiscus Festival’s charity chest managed to collect about $1.8 million.
This was announced by the chairman of the Hibiscus Events Group Inc (HEGI), Hirdesh Prasad, as the week-long festival came to an end at the Valelevu grounds in Nasinu yesterday.
Mr Prasad said moving the festival to a different venue did not deter the spirit of the Fijian people as they came in numbers to participate in the festivities.
He thanked and acknowledged the efforts and valuable support shown by major sponsor, Vodafone Fiji Ltd.
“I know there have been many challenges, but collectively we have been able to deliver a festival of the magnitude that we used to have in Suva,” Mr Prasad said.
He urged the public to help to save the environment and dispose rubbish responsibly.
Chief guest, Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation manager Ambalika Kutty said Vodafone Fiji had and would continue to support and boost the events, activities and sports in the communities to guide their objective of passion for a connected vanua.
“Together with the Hibiscus Events Group, we have been able to collect millions of dollars in charity in past years that we have distributed for various charitable organisations, in turn benefiting the needy communities,” Ms Kutty said.
