Vanuatu region registers 5.3 mag earthquake

Update: 5:31PM A 5.3 MAGNITUDE earthquake occurred in the Vanuatu region this afternoon.

The
seismology Unit of the Department of Mineral Resources reported that the
earthquake occurred at a depth of 110km at 2:36pm.

It
was registered at 247km North Northwest from Port Vila, Vanuatu; 745km North Northeast
from Noumea, New Caledonia; and 1025km West Northwest from Suva, Fiji.

The
department noted that this seismic activity did not pose an immediate threat to
the Fiji region.
