TAILEVU is a step closer to returning to top-level rugby after its narrow 21-20 win over Tropik Pine Lautoka in the Vanua Challenge semi-final at Lautoka’s Churchill Park yesterday.

Superboot fullback Etonia Rokotuisawa was the toast of the green and gold Tailevu machine scoring 11 points from three penalties and one conversion to secure the crucial victory.

The Maroons had themselves to blame as they dominated territory and possession resulting in their four tries to Tailevu’s two.

However, basic errors and some costly individual decision-making cost them the game.

The home side also missed two easy kicks in front of the goal posts which would have made the difference.

Tailevu will face neighbours Northland in the final next week. Meanwhile, Nasinu defeated Yasawa 36-20 in the semi-final of the Vanua Challenge in the under-20 held at Lautoka’s Churchill Park yesterday.

Nasinu managed to score six tries to Yasawa’s three and marches on to secure a spot in the final next weekend.
