Vaccine cost to be determined

MEMBERS of the public have been encouraged to contact the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) and raise their concerns on the prices of meningococcal vaccines.

A statement released by FCCC yesterday stated that the commission was now looking into the cost of the vaccine.

It also stated that a team has been tasked to collect data and analyse pharmacies that were selling the vaccines.

The commission has also met the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to discuss the issue and has also consulted the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) for assistance to verify the prices of the vaccines.

The commission said a preliminary outcome would be released in the coming days and was expected to help determine the actual landing costs of the vaccines.

“The FCCC Act 2010 provides the legal framework for FCCC to safeguard consumer interests at the same time ensuring equitable returns for traders,” the commission said.
