USP donates $5k for cyclone victims

THE Minister of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa today received a cheque worth $5,639.96 from the University of the South Pacific’s Campus Life Office for those affected by Tropical Cyclones Keni and Josie.

Mrs Vuniwaqa said to have students engage themselves in such initiatives was indeed admirable.

“To actually have a university which has a department that encourages students contributions to the community at large is very admirable and the purpose behind today (yesterday) to do what you can as a student to support the worthy cause that our students, everybody of this nation tried to contribute to post the natural disasters that we faced,” Mrs Vuniwaqa said.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Learning, Teaching and Student Services) Professor Richard Coll acknowledged the support shown towards raising funds for those affected by Tropical Cyclone Keni and TC Josie.

“We have received a lot of support from the staff, students and the community at large with 17 corporate sponsors,” Professor Coll said.
