SIXTEEN choirs competed at the first day of the annual Fijian Methodist Fellowship United Kingdom at Stoke on Trent last week on Good Friday, March 30.

Divisional assistant choir master Manasa Vula said the first day had four categories; children,women, men and quartet choirs.

“The level of competition, especially for the children, has gone up a notch,” he said.

He said most of the children’s choirs sang “beautiful Fijian hymns”.

Mr Vula said 34 choirs registered to compete at the two-day competition.

The competition ended on Saturday with categories including the circuits, church class two and church class one.

Members of the choir came from Scotland and as far as Northern Ireland to attend the annual conference and two-day choir competition.

The annual conference is held during the Easter weekend and a time for the Fijian community in the Uk ,Scotland and Northern Ireland to meet.
