Update: 5:36PM A main principle that indo-Fijians now often overlook was how women are treated says Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Veena Bhatnagar.
Ms Bhatnagar made this comment while officiating at the Andhra Convention cultural night yesterday.
I wish to make use of this opportunity to ask us all to first reflect on the most basic thing our cultures teach us, which is not only how we do things, our clothes, food and art but the principles that our cultures teach us, Ms Bhatnagar said.
She said women having toiled under circumstances of stereotypes for centuries owe it to themselves to embrace how they can be effective actors of development within their homes and the society.
We have many rules for women in our Indian cultures, but we often fail to give back the respect, care, protection and love our women deserve for all that they do.
