HUNDREDS of children braved the rainy and cold Suva weather to participate in the opening of the Preschool Week celebrations at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua today.

Child Benefit and Mobile Kindy Fiji executive director Analesi Tuicaumia said children needed to access high quality early childhood care education and development at a very young age which helps children reach their full potential during their informative years.

She said regardless of being classified as poor or rich, living in the rural or squatter settlements or those living in urban centres, children should be encouraged to learn and be educated from a very young age.

“Today marks the opening of children’s celebration of preschool week. Child Benefit at this juncture wishes all children, parents and teachers across the nation a joyous and safe celebration week,” Mrs Tuicaumia said.

Almost 25 kindergarten schools from around the Suva participated in the opening event today.
