FIJI Under 16 rugby coach Masi Saqanavere conveyed to his players it was time to switch on as the squad marched into camp yesterday.

“Once you put that jersey on, you have to switch on; it’s a different level altogether. I understand that they are still young but also that they are ambassadors and they now represent Fiji,” Saqanavere said.

After a gruelling first session at Bidesi Park yesterday, Saqanavere relayed to his players how important it was to don the white jersey as final preparations began for the Inter-State rugby competition that will be held at the Gold Coast in Australia at the end of this month.

“I told the players the jerseys that they are wearing are earned through blood and sweat. Every 15 year old and 16 year old rugby player wants to wear that Fiji jumper, they are the cream of the crop and when they wear that jersey, they must keep that in mind.”

Saqanivere also mentioned that although they are representing at a national level, the players needed to enjoy themselves as well.

The team will depart for Australia on September 28.
